Rev. Gary Kennedy asks “What’s In A Name?” Mary and Joseph were told by the angel to name their son Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus. We pray in the name of Jesus. Jesus came as a gift from God to all of us. He came to live as a human while still being God. He came to receive punishment for our sins in our place. As a result, his coming gave us the gift of eternal life with God if we accept the gift. Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” We are told in 1 John 5:1a that “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God . . .” The name of Jesus is the most precious gift we could every receive. He has given us the gift of LIFE (Eternal)!
