United Methodist Women (UMW)
United Methodist Women provides opportunities and resources to grow spiritually, become more deeply rooted in Christ, and put faith into action. The United Methodist Women of Willowbrook are dedicated to learning, caring and sharing the message of Jesus Christ. The United Methodist Women have a Unit meeting once a month during most of the year and there are five circles which are smaller groups that meet additionally once a month. Circles have programs, fellowship, and may work on mission projects. Unit meetings have been the third Monday of each month except for June, July and August. All women of Willowbrook are invited to participate in a circle and/or the unit meeting. Projects we have worked on include Bibles for the United Methodist Outreach Ministry in Phoenix, school supplies for various organizations as well as gift cards, diapers and books for foster children. In 2020 we raised money for the Pledge to Mission by writing a cookbook and selling it. Pledge to Mission money is given to programs that benefit women and children here in the U.S. as well as overseas.
Due to the unusual circumstances of the pandemic, we are just returning to in-person activities. We hope to be able to have our Annual Christmas tea that benefits mission as well as a spiritual retreat in 2022 which was cancelled from 2020. Each unit meeting has a learning or worship opportunity. The UMW begins the Lenten season with the Call to Prayer and Self Denial and at Thanksgiving we offer up our Thank offerings for the year.
There is an excellent reading program which many women participate in and many of the books are located in the church library.
For times of individual circles please contact the church office and the UMW officers will contact interested parties.
Purpose: UNITED METHODIST WOMEN SHALL BE A COMMUNITY OF WOMEN WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO KNOW GOD AND TO EXPERIENCE FREEDOM AS WHOLE PERSONS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST; TO DEVELOP A CREATIVE, SUPPORTIVE FELLOWSHIP AND TO EXPAND CONCEPTS OF MISSION THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN THE GLOBAL MINISTRIES OF THE CHURCH.
