Rev. Ruth Blum shares the significance of the curtain being torn from top to bottom when Christ died on the cross. Before His sacrifice every year on the Day of Atonement the High Priest was the only person who could enter through the curtain into the Holy of Holies in the temple. He would go through many ritual sacrifices atoning for the sin of the people. After this the people began a new year with hopes new life, new hope, new promise. Jesus paid the ultimate atonement for our sins, resulting in the curtain being torn from top to bottom, opening access to the Presence of God for us.
